Wow it's been over a month since I've last blogged. Time has flown by here. It's weird to think this trip is halfway over. We are still at our community, Manggahan, in the morning. I made a good friend there who is a month apart in age, and has the coolest name, Sunday. We just sit and talk about life and the differences and similarities of our cultures.
And my team still goes to the children's home in the afternoons and just hang out with them cause I guess we still lived there when I last blogged. It has it's advantages not being parents to the kids all the time and being there friends for a few hours a day. We are with a big organization and we see week or two long mission groups come in and play with the kids and have fun with them which is awesome. But having lived there, my team and another team in our squad that live there think, "you guys don't see these kids all the time, these are our kids, we have been through a lot with disciplining and playing them." It's not to take anything away from the other groups it's just a different perspective.
Oh, also an opportunity came up, and after praying about it as a team and a squad we decided to go to Tacloban, the typhoon relief area for two weeks. We leave this Friday for what will be an unforgettable experience that will likely shock us and change us. We ride in a giant truck for at least a day maybe two.
We also got to go to smokey mountain a week ago, which is where the trash goes and people sort it. There's a whole community and we helped out with a feeding there that a pastor does. And as all the little kids were lined up with their bowls, one of them had a toy Tow Mater from Cars. And the analogy or metaphor hit me that these kids that lived at the dump, dirty and rusty just wanted to be your best friend and you had to choice to let them in your hearts. Well that's a lot of writing, so I'll write you guys later.
P.S. Thanks to all of you who prayed for and donated to the typhoon relief fundraiser.
